MTW has recently (within the past week) chosen to pull their missionaries from Acapulco, which means that Carpio and I will not be able to serve at the Casa hogar in Acapulco. This was very sad news but we have already felt the peace of God and how He is working in this decision. We spent a lot of time in contemplation and prayer and even questioned whether or not He was really calling us to this type of ministry. But we see how God reaffirmed our calling and almost immediately another opportunity was opened to us- serving at another Casa Hogar in Mexico in a little town right outside of Guadalajara. We would be able to work closely with the MTW missionaries there while serving at this other Casa Hogar. Carpio is from a small pueblo in Mexico and we had actually talked about starting a children's home in a rural area in Mexico- so we are excited to see where all this could lead! 

The Casa Hogar is called "Ranchito con esperanzo" (Little Ranch with Hope), which gives care and love to children that have come from very difficult family situations. It is run by a Mexican man and his American wife (similar to us:) The home allows siblings to stay together and live like a real family with the others at the ranch. There is a school and farm on campus where the children can get academic and practical life lessons.

We would be serving this place in the same way we hoped to serve in Acapulco; as house parents, working with their education and tutoring, having Bible studies and lessons for the kids, as well as using our art and soccer interests for the kids. Mostly we want to share with these kids the love of God and the hope that they do have in Christ. Although they come from seemingly hopeless situations we have seen, personally, how God can change and recreate people.

And we are convinced that He has something great in store for us - that He will be molding us more to His image while we serve and try to be lights to the children in this small Casa hogar.
